Monmouthshire Building Society’s Brecon branch opens

Monmouthshire Building Society has opened its new Brecon branch at a larger and more accessible premises.

The independent, Welsh, mutual building society, one of the longest-standing businesses in the region, took over the Leeds Building Society office in the centre of Brecon on 1 January 2021 as part of an ongoing strategy to increase its High Street presence throughout South Wales.

The Society, which has had a successful eight months since taking over the branch with increased membership and former Leeds members opening new accounts, has moved to its new premises at 6B The Bulwark on Brecon High Street with room to accommodate social distancing and more accessible services for customers.

Will Carroll, CEO Monmouthshire Building Society, said: “While many of our competitors are decreasing their High Street footprint, we have been keen to increase ours. During our first eight months in branch, building upon the work of our agency in the town, we have been committed to finding a good home at the heart of Brecon for our customers.

“Our new premises will allow us to provide a full service for members in the town and surrounding areas, while accommodating our customers’ needs. We have put into place all the processes to allow for a seamless transition so that our valued members do not experience disruption to any of our services.”

The Brecon branch is the tenth branch for Monmouthshire Building Society which was formed in Newport in 1869 and has 69,000 members and 207 colleagues, spread across 10 branches and 13 agencies.

To celebrate the new branch ahead of its official opening on September 27th, visitors can take part in a free raffle to be in with a chance of winning a Taste of Brecon hamper full of locally produced and sourced goods.

Will Carroll added: “We are looking forward to our members joining us later this month to celebrate the opening of our branch with cake, a celebratory drink and goodies thanks to local suppliers. We are keen to support small businesses in Brecon and invest in our local economy and area wherever possible, particularly community initiatives to provide opportunities and support the wellbeing of the town’s residents and visitors.”
