Leading UK retirement adviser backed by private equity firm

Palatine investment in My Pension Expert confirmed following FCA approval

Palatine Private Equity has completed a significant investment into My Pension Expert following approval from the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA).

My Pension Expert is the UK’s leading at-retirement adviser, with its telephone and video-based services allowing the company to provide independent financial advice on a national scale.

Palatine’s investment will accelerate My Pension Expert’s growth plans as the business aims to ensure people of all wealth brackets can receive independent financial advice and achieve their desired retirement outcomes.

As part of the process, My Money Expert also completed a debt refinancing with Beechbrook Capital. The new package from Beechbrook includes potential for additional funds to be made available to the business to facilitate further expansion in the future.

Palatine’s investment was confirmed in May 2022, with FCA change of controller approval being granted at the end of July.

Andrew Megson, executive chairman at My Pension Expert, commented: “We are delighted to conclude the investment by Palatine. It will enable My Pension Expert to further build on its success over recent years and fast-track our growth as we deliver much-needed independent financial advice to people across the UK. I believe this is fundamental to improving people’s financial security in their retirement.

“Palatine is the perfect partner to support this growth, and their strong Environmental, Social and Governance credentials were a key factor in the decision to work with them. All the team at My Pension Expert are incredibly excited about building a fantastic future helping people to achieve their goals in retirement.”

The refinancing of the company debt with Beechbrook Capital will provide further support to accelerate the growth of the business and allow My Pension Expert to capitalise on emerging opportunities.

Kieran Lawton, senior investment director at Palatine, added: “The My Pension Expert team have done an outstanding job to date, and we are very much looking forward to working alongside them to help the company grow quickly and reach its potential.

“The need for services and support like that provided by My Pension Expert has never been more important. Our focus will be on supporting Andrew and the team through value enhancement initiatives across digital, technology, people and sustainability in order to help them continue to build a highly trusted and fast-growing pensions advisory business.”

Doncaster-based My Pension Expert was advised by Park Palace Corporate Finance, Addleshaw Goddard and BDO. Palatine was advised by Gateley Legal, Kroll and RSM.

Regarding the refinance, Beechbrook were advised by Pinsent Masons and My Pension Expert by Gateley Legal.
